We hope you find the answer to your questions here! You can always contact us, and we will be happy to provide information you need.
Believe it or not, Homer Village Market has operated continuously at this location since late summer 2006! We are set back a bit from the busy highway (SR661) that intersects with Homer Road (CR19), so many people do not pay attention to us. Our signs are quite modest in keeping with the residential character of our neighborhood and to provide minimal distraction of traffic at the nearby intersection.
In 2014, the store became licensed to sell beer and wine for retail carryout. We added a couple of brightly colored signs in our windows advertising beer brands. This has created somewhat better visibility. The rest of the township is "dry" for alcohol sales.
You will usually find us closed on Mondays; and during the winter months of severe weather, the store is only open a few hours in the late afternoons to serve those warriors returning home from work or school. It seems that very few venture out of their homes during the winter unless they have to go to work or school; so it is not practical to staff the store a full shift in the winter months of late January, February, and March.
Yes, we accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, and American Express as well as Debit Cards and PayPal cards. There is no minimum charge. Some low-priced items have a discounted price for cash payment versus credit card. We do not offer "cash back" feature with debit or credit cards. We also accept electronic SNAP (formerly known as "Food Stamps") payments from all states' card-holders. No personal checks are accepted. Our card terminals utilize the most secure chip technology and comply with the highest safety standards. Our receipt paper is BPA-free for your good health.
No, we do not have an ATM. The closest ATMs are located about 4 miles northeast in Utica near the intersection of State Routes 13 and 62.
Sorry, no. We have a sign posted on the front door "No Public Restroom" because we have an EPA-regulated, commercial, private sewage system that is prohibited for public use. There are public restrooms located in Utica, about 4 miles northeast near the intersection of State Routes 13 and 62 for patrons of the gas stations and restaurants. There is also a rest stop 5 miles north near Brandon on SR 661.
Yes, we are licensed to sell beer on Sundays, but not wine. If you have ordered and already paid in advance for your wine, you may pick it up on Sunday (just bring your receipt).
Yes, for the convenience of our frequent shoppers, we stock only the brands they request. We do not carry electronic cigarettes or roll-your-own products. As public policy, we keep our tobacco out of the view of children rather than on display for customer selection. Just ask for service for tobacco at the checkout counter. In this part of Ohio, you must be at least 18 years of age to purchase and it is illegal for someone else to buy tobacco for someone underage. We reserve the right to limit quantities to avoid stockouts.
No. The State Lottery Commission's communication fees are too high to justify adding lottery sales to our small business in a sparsely populated area.
No, but you can find some worms and crickets under the rocks by our local streams and minnows swimming in the streams! We usually have packaged fishing bait, but not alive. Live bait is sometimes available for sale in nearby Utica gas stations near the intersection of SR 13 and SR 62. Custom crankbaits and hand-tied jigs are available locally as well. Ask for contact information.
We offer propane tank exchange and postage stamps. We stock several brands of all-natural, personal care products such as aromatherapy products, bath and hand soaps, shampoo and conditioner, pure essential oils and diffusers, mineral bath salts, and natural deodorant. We also carry a small assortment of men's and women's hygiene products and over-the-counter health remedies. We have a limited selection of household cleaners, paper products, picnic supplies, pet food, some commonly needed kitchen accessories, small toys, board games, batteries, candles, some hardware items, some common automotive fluids, and small tools. We offer a selection of giftable "wine accessories" such as totes, corkscrews, aerators, & stoppers.
Yes. We have several suppliers that can provide weekly deliveries. Please contact us at least one week ahead of your event to provide our suppliers sufficient lead time for delivery. Advance payment or a deposit may be required to secure your order. You will get a discount off the normal retail price. We also offer a 10% discount on a case of wine. For beer and wine, if you order by Saturday, we will phone you to pick up your order during that following week.
Yes, we generally have on hand both red and white wines from several Ohio wineries as well as regional wineries (Michigan and Indiana). If you have a favorite winery, let us know and we will see if delivery is available through our distributors.
Yes, these tanks are standardized among brands and therefore interchangeable, so long as they are not too old, rusty, or missing parts. You can bring your empty propane tank to the store, and leave it outside under the awning. We will inspect your tank to be sure it is in good condition before accepting it for exchange.
Safety is our highest priority next to customer service. We are proud and happy to say there have been no accidents in the store's private parking lot or involving store customers entering or leaving the parking lot. We want to keep it that way!
Where to Park. Our business parking lot is very small (about three or four spaces, just right for our tiny store) and intended for customer parking while shopping. Our suppliers' delivery trucks also access the parking lot on most weekdays, sometimes two at one time, and generally parallel-park near the front of the store. Customers should park and pull forward toward the "Customer Parking" signs on the white fence that surrounds the gravel parking lot. Please avoid parking directly in front of the store (unless you need to parallel park with a trailer and will be parked just a minute or two or else you will be blocking a driveway.
Handicap Parking. Although the lot is too small to require a designated handicapped parking spot, if you are able-bodied and willing, please be considerate of those less fortunate by parking further from the store entrance and leaving space for the handicapped near the entrance.
Dangerous Intersection. It is very important to realize that the store parking lot is near an intersection with Homer Road where motorists lack good line of sight to oncoming traffic on SR661 due to dips and curves in the SR661. This is not a four-way stop. This visibility problem becomes impossible if any portion of a vehicle rests near the berm on State Route 661 in violation of the posted "no parking" zone. Beware also of speeding traffic when you are pulling into or out of the parking lot onto the highway. Watch for cars that may be entering/leaving the dip in the road so you do not pull out in front of a speeding vehicle.
No Trespassing. Please understand that the store's private parking lot is very small and authorized for use ONLY by customers while shopping in the store and suppliers while taking orders or making deliveries to the store. We happily assist motorists with needs for directions or other information since we are the only "wide space in the road" for miles in any direction. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate unauthorized vehicles parking on the lot for reasons such as napping, phoning or texting, meeting with friends, selling and trading, carpooling, exchanging children, or performing vehicle maintenance. For the safety and convenience of our customers and suppliers, unauthorized vehicles will be offered assistance and asked to leave the premises if necessary. Any unattended vehicles left on the lot will be towed away at the owner's expense and in accordance with Ohio's private towing law. Occupied vehicles parking in the private lot before or after business hours could be reported to law enforcement as suspicious.
If you need a place to park for a couple of hours, public parking space is available on nearby roads (South Street, North Street, and Homer Road including in front of the post office. Off-street parking (by permission) is available at the township ball park (near the library and fire station, across from the cemetery on Homer Road, NW) and around the abandoned Homer Elementary School.
If you are a motorist needing roadside assistance for a vehicle experiencing mechanical difficulties, please drive it to a safe public parking place along the nearby side streets. If not, please call for a tow truck promptly. For safety and insurance liability reasons, please stay with your disabled vehicle while awaiting road-side assistance. Tow trucks are usually available within thirty to ninety minutes.
______________________________
*****The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) installed "No Parking Anytime" signs in April 2017 to enable law enforcement of a no parking zone within a portion of the State's right-of-way on the east side of SR 661 (North Street) including all of the store's road frontage. The no parking zone extends 200 feet south and 100 feet north of the intersection with Homer Road on the east side of SR 661. Parking is prohibited within about ten feet of the edge of the pavement (21 feet from the center line of SR 661). This is for visibility and safety at the nearby intersection. Parking ticket revenue goes to the local township. The installation of these signs has greatly improved safety of the intersection. However, the placement of the signs do present some obstacles for vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot. Please observe the suggested 25 mph speed limit at the intersection, and be careful to steer clear of the signs.
